When I was a little girl, I lived in Israel for a time. It was a really fascinating place to grow up in and I don’t think that the magnitude of its historical context had really hit me until I became an adult.
Anyways, one day I was with my friends and family, and we were exploring an archaeological site. Back then, you could easily find things like ancient coins and vases and all sorts of artifacts. In fact, it didn’t even have to be at an archaeological site. As a little girl, I had a tendency to walk around with my eyes peeled to the ground, searching for coins. And I’d find them, too. Although it was not so good for my posture.
These days things are a little different. Not only is keeping artifacts you’ve found likely to be frowned upon, your odds of finding anything after years and years of modern construction, as well as professional excavation, are probably low.
But anyways, I digress.
