I have recently given a keynote at Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design (MOME) in Budapest, Hungary. Part of the my presentation revolved around how easily we can become trapped by algorithms on social media platforms as well as services that curate news for us. Much of our perception of the reality around us is dependant on the media we consume, so how do we ensure that we are free of the algorithms? What is the antidote?
Here are some of the suggestions I had shared during my talk:
■ Go to bottom of search to get more search results less prioritized by algorithms
■ Use VPN to avoid being tracked
■ Clear cookies and history regularly
■ Have multiple YouTube or social media accounts to curate several different echo chambers
■ Consider using a social media platform like MINDS where you can customize your own bubble
