Consider this theory of mine: the breakdown of community might be at the core of our societal challenges, and the remedy could lie in reinventing and rejuvenating our communal ties. (I cover the evolution of communities more in this piece).
Recently, I posted on X about the importance of art and aesthetically pleasing public spaces—and how that’s worth investing in, whether through some level of public funds, or privately and through corporate donations.
Some argue that, while it sounds nice, in the grand scheme of critical issues like healthcare and education, this might be a luxury—not a priority.
That’s certainly a valid argument. Art does seem like a true luxury when comparing it to these other very serious needs.
And yet, it made me reflect more. Are these things not connected perhaps?
