I find that these days doubt, more often than fear, keeps me from writing about some of the topics deemed more ‘controversial.’ I’ve thought many times of addressing Roe vs Wade, gun rights, and some of the trans issues. But each time I set out to put something down, I struggle with my own thoughts. I don’t have certainty in my conclusions. I hold opposing arguments that constantly go up against each other, and with a few exceptions, there’s rarely a winning case.
When one writes an ‘opinion’ piece, there’s usually a case to be made, right? But my so-called opinions on some topics are merely meandering explorations. Is that enough to share with a reader?
Often, the little essays I share here do have a point of view and I walk the reader through my thought process to show them how I arrived there. Exposed, that journey is subject to scrutiny, but it also provides an understanding of where I’m coming from and how I got to where I’m at.
