A little over two years ago, Elon Musk put out a call for feature suggestions on X (formerly Twitter), promising to prioritize them based on the number of likes they received. It was an open invitation for users to shape the platform’s future, in what appeared to be a democratic process:

Today, my suggestion is the second most popular (at the time it was the most), and I stand by it. If we are truly committed to seeking truth, then we must embrace transparency. We must “show our sources.”
