For those who aren’t aware yet, I spent the past few years working on my first book, No Apologies: How to Find and Free your Voice in the Age of Outrage. It is my first book and it tackles the alarming phenomenon of silencing of speech and intolerance towards divergent views. For the book, I interviewed a wide range of people who have found themselves on the “wrong” side of the orthodoxy (and a few who haven’t), like Winston Marshall (formerly of Mumford & Sons), activist/musician Daryl Davis, writers Kat Rosenfield and Katie Herzog, and ex- Google employee James Damore. As result, they’ve had to face and navigate the outrage mob. Their lessons may help us all in our journeys of hitting that unmute button on our own authentic voices and resisting those who seek to stifle discourse.
