I’ve been wondering for a time now, what is it that Russians really think about the so-called ‘military operation’ in Ukraine.
There have been mass protests in Russia against the war, despite the threat of severe punishment. On the sixth day of the war in Ukraine, more than 6,000 arrests were made at anti-war protests across Russia. Just this past Sunday, police detained more than 4,300 people for protesting against President Vladimir Putin's invasion of Ukraine.
Over 1.5 million Russians have signed a petition against the war.
And yet, the population of Russia is around 144 million, so I can’t help but be curious what it is that the rest of the country thinks. According to polls—which are state-controlled—Russian support for the invasion ranges from 65 to 71%.
