I’ve always found it somewhat fascinating whenever I’d meet someone so utterly dedicated to one cause or another. Certain connections were fairly straightforward: Someone fundraising for cancer research, for example, generally had a friend or family member who was affected. It stands to reason that someone active in an animal charity, loves animals.
But some cause-affiliations were more mysterious. Those were the ones that intrigued me. One prominent person I knew became rather well-known for hosting charity events and raising funds, year-after-year, for youth in a country to which he had little to no connection. When I inquired, turned out that a chance meeting with someone else—an advocate for the cause—had sealed his fate, so moved was he.
With Ukraine under siege, I see much support—in all forms. Whether it’s people displaying Ukrainian flags in their bios, individuals making donations, or opening up their homes to take in refugees—in their own ways, people are signalling support. F…
