Ironically, MPs in the UK (and also Canada, Australia & NZ) have an unlimited right to free speech (with legal immunity) when speaking in Parliament, and cannot be sued or prosecuted for what they say, even if, for example, it's slanderous or exposes official secrets. Under the doctrine of parliamentary privilege, it's thought that it's in the national interest to give MPs the right to absolute free speech, even if this can theoretically be abused.
Hard disagree. Parents aren’t savvy enough to stop the dregs of the internet tipping up on their children’s phones, it needed government intervention. And age verification so far has mostly been based on a facial scan by the likes of Yoti, instantly discarded, no personal information required.
There’s been a lot of ignorant comment on VPNs. I find it difficult to think of a legitimate use of them outside the work context, given the almost universal use of 128 bit https these days. I’d like to see tight control on them.
The harm aspect of the act has been considerably watered down. Violence on demonstrations at asylum hotels is becoming a real danger in this country, telling social media providers not to foment them is only sensible.
I atleast think spreading awareness of this, being able to talk about your internet auspices, etc can help us combat whatever like Wetikos this might be, or averse nature, because there is not any real data about a negative-correlation with the internet usages. Even people who go harder-core, IMHO. It should be about the end-user still, and that should remain... :) Hope it helps.
When you hear "its to protect the children", it is definatly not.
There are reasonable laws such as requiring valid age verficaruon to access a aite that soley dwala in pornagraphy. Its another thing for a government to be censoring everything via an arbitray rule on what is or isnt ok to say. Europe, Britain Australia NZ and Canada consistently vote tyrannical governments into power that tell their people We care, and it's for the protectiin of children. at this point the regions ans countries mentioned above are well past "fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on meTake it from an old guy

We are left with rhe only poasible conclusion . They like being censored and jailed
Britain is really messing up. What are they thinking? Both there and in Germany people are going to prison for tweeting. How does anyone think that is reasonable?
The kids just laugh at these types of precautions. Even when I was a pre-teen in the 90s we laughed at parents' attempts to keep us from stuff when we'd already seen things 5-10 times worse than what they were protecting us from.
"Prepare them for the path, don't prepare the path for them." Same goes for engaging with speech you find difficult or offensive. Learn how to cope with it. Put your own slippers on, don't try to carpet the whole world.

One wonders what the enlightened sage John Locke would make of his country these days

It's all good intentions, but it just never ends up working that way. And yes, kids definitely find ways around things.
Only because we haven’t properly tried to shut off harmful content
